How to play MATTE Word Puzzle

Guess a five-letter English word in six attempts. Play the shared daily puzzle or choose a random word in Practice mode.

Enter a five-letter word using your keyboard or the on-screen keys, then press Enter. Guesses must be in the game’s word list.
Gold means the letter is in the correct position. A light tile means it belongs elsewhere in the word. A dark tile means that occurrence is not used in the answer.
Use the feedback to narrow your next guess. Repeated letters are counted against the answer, so one copy of a letter can be highlighted while another is dark.

A tip for your next game

Start with a word containing several distinct letters, then use the feedback to test new possibilities. The built-in word list is limited; if a real word is rejected, try another word rather than assuming your spelling is wrong.

When does the daily word reset?

The daily word changes at 00:00 UTC. Your guesses are saved in this browser, and a completed daily result can be reopened without replaying it.

Does practice affect my daily streak?

Practice contributes to lifetime game totals but does not extend or break your daily streak. Daily and practice progress are saved separately.
