Preparing two boards…

How to play MATTE Duo

Two five-letter English words share one sequence of seven guesses. Each board gives its own letter feedback. A useful guess can reveal information about both words, even when it solves neither.

  1. Enter a valid five-letter word using the on-screen keys or type while the game has focus. Press Enter to submit.
  2. Every guess is checked independently against each unsolved word. Green means the correct place, gold means elsewhere in that word, and dark means absent after repeated-letter counts are considered.
  3. Once a board is solved, it stops accepting new rows. Use your remaining shared attempts to finish the other one.
  4. Solve both by the seventh guess to win. New pair asks before replacing your current Duo progress.
  5. Share this pair sends the exact two words in an obfuscated challenge link. Duo, shared Duo and classic daily/practice have separate saves.

A tip for your next game

Watch each board separately: a letter can be absent in one word and present in the other. Repeated letters are limited to the occurrences in that particular target.

Common questions

How many guesses do I get?

Seven shared guesses for both words together. Solving one board does not reset the counter.

Does Duo affect my daily streak?

No. Duo is a separate practice variant with its own save and local results. Classic daily play remains unchanged.

Are shared answers secret?

The link uses simple obfuscation, not encryption. It is for friendly challenges, not secure competitions.
