Preparing your board…
How to play Minesweeper
Reveal every safe square without opening a mine. Choose Classic or a solver-verified No-guess board at any of the three sizes. Numbers give you clues; flags mark your suspicions.
- Select a covered square to reveal it. Each number counts mines in the surrounding eight squares, including diagonals.
- Right-click to flag a suspected mine on desktop, or turn on Flag mode before tapping on a touch screen.
- Use neighboring clues together to identify safe squares. Reveal all non-mine squares to win; opening a mine ends the game.
- No-guess mode verifies a complete logical route before your first reveal. Hint explains a safe cell or mine from displayed numbers; Apply deduction performs that step. Player flags are not assumed correct.
- Verification runs in the background with a search and time limit. You may cancel or retry; a failed check never starts an unverified board. No-guess results are stored separately from Classic statistics.
A tip for your next game
If a 1 touches only one remaining covered square, that square must contain a mine. Once that mine is accounted for, other covered neighbors of the same 1 are safe. Do not treat an uncertain flag as a proven clue.
Common questions
Is the first move safe?
Yes. Mines are placed after your first reveal, avoiding that square and its immediate neighbors. Later moves still require care. Classic boards may require a guess; accepted No-guess boards have a verified logical route from the initial reveal. Incorrect moves can still lose.
What are the board sizes?
Easy uses a 9×9 board with 10 mines, Medium uses 16×16 with 40 mines, and Hard uses 16×30 with 99 mines.
